Two people are injured following a collision early Tuesday morning that propelled one 18-wheeler off a bridge and onto the ground near the Trinity River.

The Irving Police Department reported that officers were responding to a “major crash” on southbound Loop 12 just north of Irving on the morning of February 13. This fiery crash involved three vehicles, two of which were 18-wheelers, according to NBC 5 DFW.

The driver of the 18-wheeler that careened over the bridge survived the collision. The crash had also caused a second 18-wheeler to erupt into flames. The involvement of the third vehicle in the crash is currently unknown.

Police and hazmat crews arrived to begin clearing the area, and all southbound lanes between Shady Grove in Irving and Singleton Boulevard in Dallas were closed. Two people were injured in the crash and were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

The Irving PD’s latest update at 3:20 a.m. advised locals to take alternate routes while crews worked. Officials anticipate that the crash would take hours to fully clear.

“Our crash investigators are on the scene & estimate that this could take until noon for them to investigate the crash and for crews to clear the roadway,” read Irving PD’s latest update.
