A planned mixed-use community in North Texas will include hundreds of apartments near a Dallas Stars public sports center.

Northlake Town Council members in December approved a development agreement for Chadwick Farms to build 900 units and commercial and retail space across more than 75 acres south of State Highway 114 and east of Cleveland-Gibbs Road.

Adjacent to that property is the planned site of the Dallas Stars Northlake Sports Center, where two ice sheets will be built for hockey and figure skating, along with eight courts for basketball, pickleball, and volleyball, and outdoor sand volleyball courts and outdoor pickleball.

In November, voters approved a $45 million bond proposition to fund the construction of the public facility. Northlake council members in March are scheduled to host a public hearing on whether to create a tax increment reinvestment zone over a 40-year term for the Chadwick Farms development and I-35 and State Highway 114 “sports and entertainment corridor properties.”

Texas Motor Speedway is just across I-35 from Chadwick Farms. The Dallas Morning News reported the expected delivery date of the Northlake Sports Center is late 2025.

Canada-based Western Securities is the developer behind the Chadwick Farms project. In Northlake, it operates Chadwick Apartments, The Ruby at Chadwick Commons, and Dry Creek Ranch Apartments. The company also developed Mustang Station in Frisco and The Coventry Apartments in Denton. It owns commercial properties Comstock Tower in Frisco and Hall Street at the Centrum in Dallas, according to the DMN.
