A former Texas attorney was sentenced to six months in jail on Wednesday after pleading guilty to spiking his wife’s drinks in order to induce an abortion.
Mason Herring, 39, appeared in Harris County court in Houston after having been charged with felony assault to induce abortion in 2022. The victim was his soon-to-be-ex-wife, Catherine Herring, who was pregnant with their third child at the time.
The defendant accepted a deal in which he pled guilty to lesser charges of injury to a child and assault of a pregnant person. The court ordered him to serve 180 days behind bars, followed by 10 years of probation. He was also barred from contacting his now estranged wife and their 1-year-old daughter, who was born several weeks premature and now has developmental issues, according to NBC News.
“I do not believe that 180 days is justice for attempting to kill your child seven separate times,” Catherine Herring, who has filed for divorce, told the court during the sentencing, according to the Associated Press.
The plea deal was negotiated with the office of Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, who, like Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot, has been a longtime beneficiary of left-wing mega-donor George Soros, who has contributed substantially to district attorneys’ campaigns across the country, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Catherine and Mason Herring were having marital issues when she became pregnant in 2022. Mason Herring reportedly expressed displeasure with the pregnancy from the outset, saying it “would ruin his plans and make him look like a jerk,” per NBC News.
On March 17, 2022, Catherine Herring started growing suspicious of her husband after he brought her a cup of water and pressured her to drink it despite it being cloudy. She began to feel severe cramps and began to bleed shortly thereafter, ending up in the emergency room.
While Mason Herring continued to push cups of water on her in the coming weeks, she began collecting the water, putting up cameras, and searching through the trash, where she found open packs of a medication containing Misoprostol, which is known to stimulate the uterus and induce labor. She took this evidence to the authorities, who issued an arrest warrant for her husband.
According to the National Library of Medicine, Misoprostol can be “used off-label for a variety of indications in the practice of obstetrics and gynecology, including medication abortion, medical management of miscarriage, induction of labor, cervical ripening before surgical procedures, and the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage.”
