A Los Angeles-based Cajun seafood company plans to open its second location in North Texas this month.

The Boil Daddy operates 15 restaurants in California, Florida, Colorado, and Texas, including in Garland. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, the company is remodeling a 2,840-square-foot space on Elm Street in Deep Ellum, a culturally rich neighborhood in East Dallas.

The restaurant offers lobster, shrimp, crab legs, fish, wings, fries, corn, and rice.

The Boil Daddy will be one of many restaurants in the area — among them Big Guys Chicken and Rice, The Biscuit Bar, Armoury D.E., Angry Dog, Adair’s Saloon, and AllGood Cafe.

“Deep Ellum is home to a community of over 400 businesses,” according to the neighborhood website. “Since its founding in 1873, Deep Ellum has been associated with an ever-eclectic range of commercial interests. From the theaters, gambling halls, and pawn shops of the 1920s to the punk rock venues and industrial warehouses of the 1980s to the bars, restaurants, shops, galleries, and creative offices of today, Deep Ellum has continually fostered an atmosphere of entrepreneurship.”

Deep Ellum, originally called “Deep Elm” because much of the residential and commercial activity of the area was around Elm Street, was established in 1873. Today, the character of the neighborhood is defined by 20 historically recognized buildings, including one of the first Ford automobile plants which is now the Adam Hats Lofts.

Another landmark, Continental Gin Company — the first cotton gin factory built by Robert S. Munger just before the turn of the 20th century — eventually became a mixed-use property after hosting artist lofts for several years. Other landmarks in Deep Ellum include the Boyd Hotel, Parks Brothers Warehouse, and the Palace Blacksmith Shop.
