Construction of the new Justin Elementary School is scheduled to begin in April — part of Northwest ISD’s nearly $2 billion bond package approved by voters last year.
According to a state filing, the estimated building cost is $46.3 million. The new 104,000-square-foot campus in Timberbrook will replace the existing school on nearby Boss Range Road.
“Justin and Prairie View elementary schools both feature outdated infrastructure and lower capacities than other district elementary schools,” the district’s website reads. “As part of the bond package, both campuses would have a new school built in line with the district’s current elementary design and features.”
The new Justin Elementary School will accommodate 850 students, providing improved learning environments to align with other new Northwest ISD elementary schools. Opened in 1992, the current campus cannot meet capacity needs and growth projections, according to the district. When the new school opens in 2025, the old campus will be used as an early childhood center.
In May, voters approved three propositions to fund the construction of 12 campuses and athletic facilities and renovations at other properties and for the purchase of technology devices for students and teachers.
“As the fastest-growing school district in DFW and one of the fastest growing in the state, Northwest ISD has enrolled 15,000 new students since 2010, and has increased enrollment [by] 25% between 2017 and 2022,” according to the district. “The student enrollment climbed 8.7% from 2020-2021 to 2021-2022 and residential developments indicate that NISD will continue to be a fast-growth school district for many years to come.”
District data shows that student enrollment in 2003 was 6,177. Last year, that number increased to 29,248.
“While it is impossible to predict exactly how many new students will move into NISD each year, the district partners with a demographer to review housing trends and enrollment projections to plan for growth and staffing needs. Demographers report that NISD can expect to enroll thousands of new students in the next several years, and the 2023 bond proposal is designed to accommodate 8,400 more students.”
Northwest ISD serves students across 14 areas, including Fort Worth, Roanoke, Southlake, Westlake, Keller, Haslet, Flower Mound, Northlake, Trophy Club, Rhome, New Fairview, Aurora, Newark, and Justin.
