DFW International Airport leaders are set to move ahead with plans to add nine new gates in terminals A and C to accommodate growing airline demands. Plans to build a new terminal were underway early last year but had to be postponed as a result of the pandemic.
The governing board of the airport voted to approve the $139 million-dollar expenditure on August 5. The project will also address renovations needed in the dilapidated Terminal C structure that hasn’t seen major refurbishment in nearly fifty years.
DFW is aiming to add new piers extending out from terminals A and C. This will enable planes to park at a new corridor for passengers to load and unload.
“American has worked closely with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on plans for upcoming construction projects at Terminals A and C,” said American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller. “This additional gate space will allow American to continue its same level of flying with minimal construction disruptions in the coming years, and it will enable us to grow at DFW over time.”
DFW airport’s four newly opened and refurbished Terminal D gates offer an accurate representation into what the multi-million dollar project will look like completed. Outfitted with massive display screens, smart-window glass, tech-heavy facilities, and a variety of seating options, travelers will not be disappointed.
The renovations will give DFW ample time to consider the timeline and scope of the massive Terminal F proposal. The terminal F project is estimated to cost around $3 billion and requires the commitment of American Airlines to move forward.
The Terminal F project was put on hold in April 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic spread all over the country. Terminal F would add 25 new gates to DFW, which would accommodate the needs of American Airlines and other carriers for many years to come.
