According to court records, a man accused of a fatal shooting in Pleasant Grove told Dallas police the shooting was an accident.
Twenty-year-old Stevonta Bernard Bailey faces a manslaughter charge in connection to the death of Christopher Thomas.
Officers of the Dallas Police Department were called to a shooting scene that occurred in the 10500 block of Lake June Road, near North Masters Drive. The shooting incident occurred on Oct. 6, at around 3 a.m. Responding officers found Bailey performing CPR on the victim, who was bleeding from his mouth. Thomas was taken to a hospital and died the next day.
Bailey’s arrest-warrant affidavit stated he initially told police that Thomas had been playing with a gun before accidentally shooting himself. The 20-year-old later told police that he had shot Thomas. He also revealed that someone else had taken the weapon after the shooting.
Bailey told the detectives that the gun had gone off accidentally while he was handling it.
