TV producers are looking to make a new Chuck E. Cheese-themed gameshow for adults, with the intellectual property departing from its typical target demographic of children.
Magical Elves, the television production company behind popular shows like Top Chef, Project Runway, Last Comic Standing, and more, has announced its intentions to launch a new game show based on the Irving-based franchise earlier this month. The new show will feature adults pairing up to overcome physical challenges and beat “supersized arcade games,” such as a human claw game, air hockey, and more, according to a press release.
The winners of each game can then redeem tickets at a supersized version of the prize wall typically featured at Chuck E. Cheese locations.
The new series is being developed in partnership with CEC Entertainment, which is making its first foray into unscripted content. Jo Sharon and Casey Kriley, the co-CEOs of Magical Elves, said they were excited to begin developing the new show.
“Chuck E. Cheese is THE place where a kid can be a kid — but as grown adults, we still have dreams of ruling the arcade, taking on the iconic games we love,” said the pair in the press release.
“With a legacy spanning over four decades, Chuck E. Cheese has been an integral part of the family experience for both kids and adults across the world,” said Melissa McLeanas, VP of global licensing, media, and branded entertainment development for Chuck E. Cheese. “We are thrilled to be working with Magical Elves, whose deep expertise in unscripted content makes them the perfect partner to capture the wholesome competitive spirit tied to childhood memories and transform the Chuck E. Cheese experience for television.”
A release date for the show has not yet been released.
