The United Auto Workers union wants another four years of Joe Biden as president.
The United Auto Workers (UAW) announced Wednesday that it had strategically endorsed President Joe Biden for the 2024 election due to his pro-union policies and a general animosity toward the former president.
“Today I’m proud to announce that UAW is endorsing Joe Biden for President of the United States,” said UAW President Shawn Fain in a news release. “This November, we can stand up and elect someone who wants to stand with us and support our cause or we can elect someone who will divide us and fight us every step of the way,” he said. “That’s what this choice is about.”
During the union’s national Community Action Program (CAP) conference on January 24, Fain detailed why President Biden was the best bet for autoworkers heading into the election.
“When I first came into office, we made some headlines by saying that our endorsements would be earned. We’ve said we’d stand with whoever stood with us in our contract fight. Not because somebody was nice to us, and we want to be nice to them. But because we need to know who’s going to PUT UP and who’s going to SHUT UP,” Fain said during the CAP conference.
Despite growing enthusiasm surrounding Trump’s possible return to the White House, Fain wasn’t afraid to tear into the nation’s 45th president.
“Donald Trump is a SCAB,” Fain claimed in the endorsement. “Donald Trump is a BILLIONAIRE, and that’s who he represents. If Donald Trump ever worked in an auto plant, he wouldn’t be a UAW member. He’d be a company man, trying to squeeze the American autoworker. Donald Trump stands AGAINST everything the UAW stands FOR.”
Biden was worth upwards of $10 million in August of last year, according to Forbes.
The UAW endorsed the current president partly because of his support for the union during the recent strike against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Biden, who was in attendance during the January 24 autoworkers conference, said he felt honored to receive the UAW’s endorsement.
“Look, I kept my commitment to be the most pro-union president ever,” said Biden following the UAW’s announcement. “Let me just say I’m honored to have your back and you have mine. That’s the deal.”
However, despite receiving a major endorsement from the UAW, Biden trails Trump in central battleground states, reflecting a general dissatisfaction with Biden’s first term in office, according to RealClearPolitics polling data.
