Fort Worth officials are currently investigating a pair of wrong-way collisions that occurred early Thursday morning, both of which resulted in fatalities.
Fort Worth police responded to reports of a head-on collision that occurred along Texas 114 near Farm Road 156 at around 12:40 a.m. on January 25. Upon arrival, police found that one of the vehicles had been traveling the wrong way on Texas 114 when it slammed into another vehicle, per DFW Scanner.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, identified as a 25-year-old man from Justin, Texas, died on the scene. The other driver was not seriously injured and was evaluated by first responders at the crash site.
Less than two hours later, at 2:32 a.m., another wrong-way crash occurred on I-30 near Lockheed Boulevard, WFAA reported. Emergency personnel pronounced one person dead on the scene and found three others who were injured. The identity of the driver and the circumstances that led to the collision are currently unknown.
As the morning traffic rush gained momentum, traffic began to back up for several miles due to the crash and ensuing investigation.
The Fort Worth Police Department issued a traffic alert shortly after 7 a.m., alerting drivers that eastbound I-30 at the Alta Mere exit was shut down and traffic was being redirected to the nearby service road. Police stated that it could take up to six hours for the traffic to return to its normal patterns.
