North Texas congressional candidate Brandon Gill secured yet another high-profile endorsement in his bid to become the next Republican nominee for Texas’ 26th Congressional District.
Gill has received an endorsement from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), according to The Daily Caller.
“Brandon Gill has all the best characteristics of a Texan: dedicated, hardworking, and resilient. With a deep understanding of what it means to take on the left and the corrupt mainstream media, Brandon has set himself apart from other candidates and is the best qualified to fight the radical left and their disastrous agenda in Congress,” Cruz told the news outlet.
Gill is a 29-year-old first-time candidate who was formerly an investment banker and hedge fund manager and founded the DC Enquirer. The seat he is running for is currently being held by Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX), who announced last year that he will not seek reelection in 2024.
The Flower Mound resident responded to Cruz’s endorsement by heaping praise on the senator.
“Senator Cruz is a brilliant legislator, a leader in the conservative movement, and a hero for every freedom-loving Texan. It’s an honor to have the endorsement and support of Senator Ted Cruz,” Gill said, per The Daily Caller.
Former President Donald Trump also offered an endorsement of the political newcomer on social media.
“It is my great honor to ENDORSE Brandon Gill for U.S. Congress in Texas-26,” Trump wrote. “He is the clear “America First” candidate and is as loyal and tough as they come. Brandon is Strong on SECURING OUR BORDER, STOPPING CRIME, FIGHTING INFLATION, & PROTECTING OUR 2ND AMENDMENT.”
If Gill is elected, he would likely add a fresh face to the House Freedom Caucus, which he has said he would join, per Punchbowl News.
In addition to endorsements from Cruz and Trump, Gill has also received the endorsement of several sitting Republican House members, including Reps. Troy Nehls (R-TX), Ronny Jackson (R-TX), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Lauren Boebert (R-CO), as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Gill’s campaign has raised at least $500,000 in addition to the $1.5 million raised by his PAC.
“Most people, definitely outside of Washington, would like to see some fresh faces here,” Gill said in an interview with Punchbowl News. “Oftentimes, we’ve had the same people doing the same things for a very long time, and people are looking for a change. I think a new generation is helpful.”
Gill is running against 10 other candidates, many of whom carry lengthy resumes. However, Gill is the only one to have received endorsements from some of the biggest names in Republican politics, which could be key in distinguishing him from the rest of the pack.
The Texas Republican primary is scheduled for March 5. With a crowded field, it is possible that no candidate wins a majority of the vote, which would trigger a runoff that would be held in May.
