The City of Rowlett has designated January as “Sanctity of Life Month” in an effort to “reaffirm” the city’s commitment to protecting “life in all its forms.”
Rowlett City Council Member Mike Britton issued the proclamation on Tuesday.
“At last night’s City Council meeting, January was recognized as Sanctity of Life Month,” the City posted on social media on January 17. “In 1984, President Ronald Reagan was the first president to issue a proclamation for the sanctity of life — which is a philosophical understanding that all human life has an inherent dignity and worth that sets it apart from all other beings within the world. And now, in the city of Rowlett, January will be a time to reflect on the value of human life.”
This move was made the same week as the 51st annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., which took place on Friday, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. The day marked the second March for Life since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and saw House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) address throngs of anti-abortion advocates.
“[T]he inherent value and sanctity of every human life are fundamental principles that deserve recognition and respect,” the City of Rowlett’s proclamation reads. “[T]he commitment to upholding the dignity of all individuals, regardless of age, race, ability, or circumstance, is a cornerstone of our shared humanity.”
“[T]his month provides an opportunity to reaffirm our dedication to fostering a culture that cherishes and safeguards the sanctity of life in all its forms,” the document continues. “Through advocacy, support, and compassion, we aim to create communities that uphold the intrinsic worth of each person.”
“Let us unite in honoring, protecting, and celebrating the value of every life, promoting a society where empathy, inclusivity, and respect thrive,” the proclamation concludes.
