Now through January 20, the Soul Rep Theatre Company presents Elm Thicket, a play about the Dallas neighborhood where playwright Anyika McMillan-Herod lived. Set in 2020, the play is a “serio-comedy” about two people who grew up in the neighborhood exploring love and friendship as they navigate the pandemic and neighborhood gentrification. The Producers, a Mel Brooks film turned Broadway smash hit turned movie favorite again, is back on the stage, this time at Moody Performance Hall in Dallas, from now through January 20. Presented by Lyric Stage, the musical comedy tells the story of a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his accountant who scheme to bilk their investors out of millions of dollars by producing a flop, but their show instead becomes a hit. Dog Man: The Musical is a “hilarious, heartfelt family adventure based on the worldwide bestselling series from Dav Pilkey, the creator of Captain Underpants and Cat Kid Comic Club.” The crime-fighting Dog Man, with the head of a dog and the body of a human, tries his best to be a good boy while saving the world from cyborg fish and evil cats. Tina — The Tina Turner Musical, a Broadway Dallas production, portrays the “inspiring journey of a woman who broke barriers and became the Queen of Rock n’ Roll” and features some of her best-loved songs.
