A Fort Worth private school plans to spend an estimated $2 million to build a practice gym for its cheerleading team.

According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, construction of the building at Lake Country Christian School (LCCS) is expected to begin in February. The anticipated delivery date of the 4,995-square-foot project is August 1. The filing describes the building as a “cheerleading activity practice gymnasium without spectators.”

The school’s varsity cheer team has won the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders (FCC) national championship for the past five consecutive years.

In 2022, varsity and middle school cheer teams and individuals received dozens of awards at an FCC camp at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie.

Lake Country Church owns LCCS, and both are located between Lake Country Drive and Boat Club Road. A church spokesperson did not immediately return a message seeking comment about the project.

About 600 Pre-K through 12th-grade students attend LCCS. For the 2023-24 school year, tuition ranges from $6,345 to $16,345, according to its website, and its graduates have been accepted into more than 150 colleges and universities. LCCS offers a number of athletics, including football, soccer, volleyball, girls’ and boys’ basketball, tennis, cheerleading, baseball, softball, golf, cross country, and track. The school’s fine arts programs include band, theater, choir, and art.

LCCS opened in 1980 with 35 students in grades Pre-K through 8. The school is accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International.

Lake Country Baptist Church was founded in 1975 by its pastor, the Rev. Bill O’Brien. A sanctuary and classroom facility were completed in 1976. In 1996, the church changed its name to the Lake Country Church.
