Emergency officials are dealing with yet another Texas train derailment, resulting in the closure of multiple roads.

The Roanoke Fire Department reported that a coal train derailed outside the city in the early morning hours of January 2. The city’s police department followed up on this report, noting road closures at Highway 377 south of Highway 114, as well as the Henrietta Creek railroad crossing.

“There are 3 coal cars and one locomotive derailed at this time. No injuries reported and crews are working to safely move train to allow crossings to open,” said the fire department in its post.

Drivers early Tuesday morning were warned of possible delays and advised to take alternate routes. Nearby railroad crossings and Southbound 377 have since reopened; however, one lane on Southbound 377 remains closed southbound from Houston to Main. The cause of this derailment is currently unknown.

Repairs are expected to be completed by 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Multiple train derailments have plagued Texas as well as the rest of the nation over the last several years, some of which have been very costly or hazardous. Texas currently leads the nation in hazardous train derailments, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
