An apartment blaze left multiple Fort Worth residents displaced on Christmas Eve, resulting in several injuries and one fatality.
The Fort Worth Fire Department posted on social media that they had responded to reports of an apartment fire on the 600 block of King George Drive just before 8 p.m. on December 24. Firefighters took note of “heavy smoke” rising from the building and immediately began battling the blaze.
The fire would be upgraded to a 3-alarm fire; however, after a little over an hour, the firefighters subdued the flames. Emergency personnel pulled two people from the burning building, who were transported to local hospitals to be treated for “life-threatening injuries.”
The department later confirmed that one of the two individuals transported to the hospital had been pronounced dead, according to WFAA. The identity of the deceased victim has not been released.
One firefighter was reported injured and transported to a hospital to be treated for “minor injuries.”
Photos taken after the blaze revealed the blackened and burned remains of one of the apartment units.
The fire department reported that 25 residents from the complex had been displaced. Smoke from the fire had damaged residents’ belongings, with many returning to their homes after the blaze to dispose of soiled items.
Volunteers from the American Red Cross Greater North Texas are providing aid to the displaced residents as officials investigate the cause of the blaze.
