Two of Dallas County’s four county commissioners seats will be up for grabs in 2024.
The Democratic incumbents from Districts 1 and 3, Theresa Daniel and John Wiley Price, plan to seek their respective offices once again. Their combined commissioner territories comprise the majority of southern Dallas County and eastern Dallas County. Both will face opponents in the forthcoming primary election, while Daniel likely will also be joined by Republican hopeful Jason Metcalf on the general election ballot.
As established in the State Constitution, Dallas County has four county commissioners and a county judge. The members are elected every four years and guide critical matters at a county-level, including setting the county tax rate; adopting the budget; appointing boards and commissions; approving grants and personnel actions; and overseeing the administration of the county government. The county also oversees certain jail facilities and Parkland Memorial Hospital.
The following candidates have been approved by the Texas Secretary of State to appear on the ballot for the Republican and Democratic parties for the primary election on March 5. Early voting is set to kick off on February 20.
