Volunteers have been busy sorting, bagging, and distributing donated clothes as part of The Salvation Army Angel Tree program, the largest of its kind in the world.

The Salvation Army of North Texas Christmas warehouse in Dallas will again ensure thousands of families in the region receive support this holiday season. The program has been in operation for over 44 years.

“It’s touching to go outside and see the families lined up, looking forward to celebrating Christmas,” NBC 5 DFW’s Scott Friedman said.

“We annually participate in the Angel Tree program at work, selecting Angels to buy gifts for. It’s gratifying to be involved in this phase, too,” said his colleague, Deborah Ferguson.

The annual initiative will ensure roughly 35,000 children, seniors, and special needs adults receive gifts over the holiday season.

“Seeing the filled shelves is wonderful but observing them empty is even more fulfilling because it signifies that our community has significantly aided many people,” said Major Dawn McFarland of The Salvation Army of North Texas.

For supporter Lori Jones, hearing “first-hand accounts of clients served by The Salvation Army can be life-changing,” she says.

Long-time supporters of the program include the Jones family and the Dallas Cowboys.

“It’s just such an impactful part of what is needed in our city and for us to be down here and play just a small role is really a way to give back,” said Jerry Jones Jr.

While you can no longer donate gifts to the campaign, The Salvation Army of North Texas is still accepting monetary donations to help support ongoing work.
