The DFW Humane Society has an unbeatable deal for anyone looking to add a new pup to the family. The organization is offering all dogs over 40 pounds for free during the entire month of October.

Founded in 1967, DFW Humane Society is a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter that helps match neglected or abandoned pets with their forever owners. Each year, the shelter rescues over 900 pets, and in August 2021 alone, the shelter adopted 110 animals, according to their website.

The shelter’s website offers a page where potential adopters can browse photos of the pets available to adopt. As of October 1, 18 adoptable dogs of all ages, breeds, and sizes are listed on the site. Cat lovers will be pleased to know the shelter also offers cat adoptions, and 29 cats are shown to be adoptable on the website.

While the DFW Humane Society provides a perfect temporary home for these animals, it is not intended to be a permanent solution. The October free adoption event takes away the financial component of pet adoption, which may hinder some visitors from bringing home a new pet. The more pets that are adopted, the more space and care the shelter can dedicate to the animals.

The shelter has no federal or state funding and relies entirely on donations. On top of day-to-day care, the shelter rescues sick and injured pets and provides them with the medical treatments they need to ensure a full and healthy life.

Those who may not be ready to adopt a new pet but want to help support the shelter can donate here. You can also check out the shelter’s volunteer program here. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older or accompanied by a legal guardian.

The shelter is located at 4140 Valley View Lane Irving, TX 75038, and is open from noon to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
