Birdville ISD is scheduled to begin renovations at Haltom High School next year as part of a $300 million bond package approved by voters.

The work spans more than 15,600 square feet for new construction of “studios with support spaces” and for interior work on the auditorium, cafeteria, and library, according to a state filing. The $25 million project is set to begin in June, and the anticipated delivery date is July 2025.

In November, voters approved two propositions for safety and security, renovations, and rebuilds at three campuses and other properties, including athletic facilities and buses, and for technology upgrades for students and employees.

In Northeast Tarrant County, Birdville ISD has 32 campuses and a student population of about 22,000, according to the Texas Education Agency.

According to the district, Haltom High School — then named Birdville High School — was built in 1939. It burned down eight years later and was replaced. In 1961, a second high school — named Richland — opened and the original high school was renamed Halton. A bond election approved by voters in 1986 funded the purchase of a new site and a new Haltom High School, and the original building was retrofitted into an educational center for “special student programs and services.”

Dallas-based HKS is listed as the design firm for the new construction and renovations. The HKS portfolio includes projects in aviation, government, education, hospitality, health, sports and entertainment, and mixed-use residential. In the education sector, its work involves the Arlington ISD Center for Visual and Performing Arts, Dallas Lutheran School, and the University of Texas at Dallas Living Learn Communities.
