A new detail has come to light in Mark Cuban’s pending sale of the Dallas Mavericks to the Adelson family.
According to D Magazine and WFAA Dallas, recent Texas records show that the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, owned by the Adelsons, has purchased over 100 acres of land near the old Texas Stadium, the former home of the Dallas Cowboys in Irving.
The land was purchased by a “Village Walk Re 2 LLC” on July 17, 2023, and D Magazine traced the LLC’s address back to the Houston office of the Winston and Strawn law firm. The magazine then tracked the LLC’s taxpayer number, which revealed a Las Vegas mailing address that matches the Las Vegas Sands Corporation.
According to state records, the LLC paid $22.4 million for the land at 2615 SPur 842 in Irving, across State Highway 114 from the iconic stadium’s former home.
The discovery comes on the heels of the announced intention of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban to sell a majority ownership stake to the Adelsons, who have long been considering opening a Dallas area casino if casino gambling becomes legalized through the state legislature.
Yet, it is important to note that no connection between the pending sale of the team and the land purchase has been confirmed.
Since the pending sale was announced, theories have surfaced that the new casino would go hand-in-hand with a new Mavericks arena, as the team has stated it plans to leave the American Airlines Center upon the conclusion of its current lease in 2031. However, Cuban will remain involved with the team, and he and the Adelsons had previously said they would look for a new arena location in Dallas.
Still, no plans for the recent land acquisition have been announced. Asked by WFAA about the land purchase, Cuban said he knew nothing about it.
