After a week of pleasant “spring-like” temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the thermometer will fall to a more winter-like position with the arrival of a cold front this weekend, according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth.
“Gusty south winds 15 to 25 mph will occur both [Thursday] and Friday, but may diminish briefly [Thursday] evening. High clouds will be persistent over the region through midnight, with low clouds returning for the morning hours Friday,” the NWS said on its website. “Most areas should be partly to mostly sunny by Friday afternoon.”
Temperatures across North Texas will hit the upper 60s and low 70s on Thursday, with a further warm-up on Friday, reaching the upper 70s and low 80s. Friday’s temperatures will be 10-20 degrees above normal for this time of year, according to NWS.
However, a cold front arriving late Friday night will bring temperatures back into the 40s overnight, with highs climbing only into the low 60s on Saturday afternoon. The cold front will also bring a chance of rain and isolated thunderstorms to the region, with the greatest chance in the areas east and southeast of the metroplex.
The more seasonal temperatures will continue into early next week, with sunny skies and highs only in the mid-50s on Sunday and low 60s on Monday. Clouds will move into the metroplex on Tuesday, and high temperatures are anticipated to hit the low 60s. The NWS has forecasted a 20% chance of rain and a high temperature of 59 degrees for Wednesday, December 13.
