Two men were transported to the hospital in critical condition on Wednesday after they were trapped inside a home that caught fire.
The Fort Worth Fire Department responded to a 911 call of a house fire in the 5600 block of Donnelly Avenue in the Como neighborhood on November 28 at about 10:15 p.m. The caller told dispatchers that he and another individual were trapped inside the home by “heavy fire” and burglar bars.
“Those things are great for what their intended purpose is from keeping people outside of the home, but unfortunately, when you’re inside, and your house is on fire, it’s very hard to get out,” said Craig Trojacek, a Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman, according to WFAA.
Firefighters with Engine 16 arrived at the scene of the fire, kicked in the door of the home, and discovered the two victims unconscious inside the home. After pulling the two men from the burning residence, firefighters performed immediate life-saving measures. The two were then transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital by CareFlite helicopters.
The identities and current condition of these victims are currently unknown. Officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
FWFD advises that citizens take measures to preserve their safety in the event of a fire, such as sleeping with their bedroom door closed.
“We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to check your smoke alarm batteries and ensure your smoke alarms are in working condition,” said FWFD in its post. “Also, practice an escape plan with your family should you ever need to escape your home in a fire. Have fire extinguishers on hand in the kitchen and know how to use them.”
This blaze is not the only recent fiery event to have recently occurred. In Dallas, a gas explosion on Thanksgiving Day left a home largely destroyed and one of its occupants hospitalized with second-degree burns, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
