Weather experts expect a brief warmup across the North Texas region this week. Slightly higher temperatures will be accompanied by chances for widespread showers and storms.

North Texas saw a cool start to the week as temperatures dropped into the low to mid-50s during the day on November 27, with the evening hours seeing temperatures to near freezing in the 30s and 40s.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth expects “seasonably cool” temperatures across North Texas through November 28 and November 29, with clear skies and high temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s. Slightly warmer temperatures are in store for November 30, along with a chance for thunderstorms beginning in the overnight hours of November 29.

“The severe weather threat remains low at this time, but a few strong storms with gusty winds and hail are possible across parts of Central and East Texas Thursday and Thursday night ahead of our next cold front,” stated the NWS on its website. “All showers and storms should exit the area by early Friday morning with cooler and drier air filtering in behind the front.”

The greatest chance for strong storms will be west of the DFW metroplex.

Juan Hernandez with the NWS in Fort Worth told The Dallas Express that chances for rain across the region on November 30 will be between 70% and 80% and that temperatures will be about ten degrees higher than temperatures seen earlier this week.

“By Thursday, we’ll see highs around 64 degrees. In comparison, yesterday we were in the 50s,” said Hernandez in a phone interview. “So, between yesterday and Thursday, it will be about 10 degrees warmer.”

Temperatures across North Texas on December 1 will remain in the high 50s and rise into the low to mid-60s this weekend, with another chance for showers and storms on December 3.

Hernandez said that temperatures in the 60s should remain steady through the following week.
