For Isha Vedire, the decision to open the first of 20 Rise Southern Biscuits franchises in Dallas’ Victory Park neighborhood was an easy one.
“We were visiting family in North Carolina and one of the Rise stores there when we fell in love with the food,” she said in an interview with The Dallas Express.
“We just wanted to bring it back to Dallas. We felt there were some breakfast options missing there,” she added.
Vedire and her husband, Ashwin Reddy, plan to open 18 of the 20 franchises over the next decade. After the Victory Park store, the couple plan to open a Rise Southern Biscuits in Saginaw.
“The first few locations, we are looking to move more quickly on them,” Vedire said. “On the second location in Fort Worth, we are in lease negotiations. That is slated to open next year, as well.”
According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, the first Dallas location is on Victory Park Lane between Nowitzki Way and Museum Way, The Dallas Express reported previously.
Construction, with a projected cost of $400,000, is scheduled to begin at the end of this month and be complete by the end of January.
The project is moving forward despite the City of Dallas’ lengthy permitting delays on commercial projects. Such delays have been periodic under City Manager T.C. Broadnax, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
GTM Architects of Bethesda, Maryland, has been selected as the design firm for the Victory Park restaurant. That location will join a handful of food and drink spots in the area northwest of downtown Dallas anchored by the American Airlines Center, home of the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars.
“We sense a tremendous opportunity to grow this brand in the state of Texas over the next five to 10 years with multiple locations in Dallas metro and beyond,” Reddy told QSR Magazine in an interview last year when the franchise deal was first announced.
Reddy and Vedire have a background that includes building an outpatient behavioral practice that they scaled to “over 30 providers with seven locations and annual revenue over $15 million,” according to QSR’s report.
“While our backgrounds are medicine and engineering, our love and passion are business, entrepreneurship, and building and growing companies,” Reddy told the publication at the time.
Vedore told The Dallas Express the couple are from Arizona but based in Frisco.
Founded in Durham, North Carolina, in 2012, Rise Southern Biscuits serves scratch-made buttermilk biscuits and chicken sandwiches, using no wait staff, during breakfast and lunch hours. The concept has grown to 19 locations across North Carolina, Kansas, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, Tennessee, and California.
Additional menu offerings include cheddar tots, Counter Culture Coffee, and donuts with flavors such as maple bacon and famed North Carolinian soft drink Cheerwine.
