With Thanksgiving taking place on Thursday of next week, it is important to know about potential city closures.
The city of Fort Worth issued an advisory on November 15 for those planning to stay in town through the upcoming week into the holiday. The city announced that a majority of its offices would be closed from November 23 to November 24, except for emergency services.
Office closures include city hall, North Animal Campus, the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center, libraries, and more.
“All community centers will close at 6 p.m. Nov. 22. On Nov. 23, all community centers, Haws Athletic Center, FW@6 programs, Log Cabin Village and the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge will be closed,” read a release from the city. “The water features at the Water Gardens will be turned off.”
The city also announced that there will be no solid waste collections for Thanksgiving Day. Bulk waste collections will resume the following day on November 24, with regular collection schedules resuming on November 27.
Residents can put two additional trash bags beside their cart on the first pick-up day following Thanksgiving.
Fort Worth’s four drop-off stations and the Environmental Collection Center will also be closed on November 23 and 24 and will reopen on November 25.
Fort Worth’s public transit will also be paused.
“On Thanksgiving Day, Trinity Railway Express (TRE), TRE LINK, and the CentrePort Shuttle will not operate. The ticket sales kiosk at Fort Worth Central Station will be closed. However, customer care representatives will be available 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 817-215-8600,” read the city’s announcement.
All services, save for TRE, TRE LINK, and the CentrePort Shuttle, are expected to resume service on November 24.
Residents who need to contact the city’s water department over the holiday are advised to call the department’s 24-hour call center at 817-392-4477.
