Three people were injured on Saturday when a plane making an emergency landing collided with a car in McKinney.

The McKinney Fire Department reported that a small plane registered to Ojos Aviation LLC in Midland needed to make an emergency landing, according to Fox 4 KDFW.

Around 12:30 p.m., the plane tried to land on a runway at Aero Country Airport, but the plane overshot the runway and went through a fence before colliding with a vehicle on Virginia Parkway.

The identities and conditions of those involved in the crash are currently unknown. The National Transportation Safety Board is working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to assess the damage and condition of the craft before conducting a full investigation.

Mishaps and compromised safety in aviation appears to be on the rise. A recent investigation of data and reports from the FAA reveals that incidents have been increasing for the past decades, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Carlos Wiggins, who witnessed the crash, told Fox 4 that he and others did not initially realize that one of the vehicles involved was an airplane.

“We noticed that a plane actually collided with the car on the other end, and we saw the person on the other end,” Wiggins said.

He added that he and others left their vehicles to investigate the crash, noting the scene was “crazy.”

“What was going through my mind was just like, you know, I hope everybody’s safe, and yeah, this is going to be a story to tell,” said Wiggins, per Fox 4.

The McKinney Fire Department reported that three people were injured during the crash, two of whom were occupants of the plane, with the other being the driver of the car. First responders treated all three, transporting one person to a local hospital.
