A new ranking has revealed the best hospitals in each state in the United States, with several in North Texas making the cut.
Newsweek recently released its list of Best-In-State Hospitals in the nation for 2024, with help from Statista, a leader in data gathering and visualization. A total of 600 hospitals were put on the list.
The top hospitals were identified using four methods of data collection. These methods included a nationwide online survey of more than 10,000 medical professionals, metrics on mortality, re-admission statistics, safety metrics, quality of care, timeliness of care, and reported patient experience, as well as Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) survey data.
In Texas, Houston and Dallas dominated the top five.
Houston Methodist Hospital was named the No.1 hospital in Texas, with an overall score of 93.71%. Dallas hospitals UT Southwestern Medical Center and Baylor University Medical Center followed in second and third place with scores of 86.14% and 85.55%, respectively.
UT Southwestern treats approximately 105,000 hospitalized patients each year alongside managing 370,000 emergency room cases and 3 million outpatient visits, according to its website.
Meanwhile, Baylor University Medical Center provides care for more than 300,000 patients each year. It was also placed on U.S. News & World Report’s 2023 Best Hospitals Guide, notably for its gastroenterology, neurology, and pulmonology departments.
Several other hospitals located in the metroplex made Newsweek’s ranking. The Baylor Scott & White Medical Center’s Plano, Centennial, and Frisco locations faired well by placing No.9, No.18, and No.20, respectively. Their scores were 81.28%, 78.96%, and 78.75%.
Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in southwestern Fort Worth and Medical City Dallas Hospital also held respectable scores of 79.93% and 79.67%, making No.14 and No.16 on the list.
A bit further to the east, the University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center ranked No.15 with an overall score of 79.85%.
“We are honored to be recognized on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best-In-State Hospitals 2024,” said Zach Dietze, CEO of UT Health North Campus Tyler, in a press release. “This prestigious recognition is a testament to the tireless work of our caregivers and their dedication to providing high-quality care to the community in a safe environment.”
