A food-delivery app available only to Texas customers has promoted its chief taco officer — just a year after he was hired for that position.
Chris Flores is now the chief tasting officer for Favor Delivery.
Last year, Favor conducted a widely marketed search across the state of Texas as it sought to find a “chief taco officer” to help showcase locally owned and operated taquerias and the communities they serve across Texas. With the role came the opportunity to traverse across the Lone Star State over the summer on a mission to find the state’s best taco – the “most-Favored food” in Texas.
Flores, a San Antonio native, was chosen in July 2022 from hundreds of applicants for the position, visiting more than 100 taco spots and sharing his experiences on social media. In his new role, Flores will now add other cuisines to his repertoire, including burgers and barbecue “and everything in between.”
“It has been an honor being Favor’s chief taco officer, and I cannot wait to begin my new position as Favor’s chief tasting officer,” Flores said in a prepared statement. “This expanded role will allow me to continue sharing my love of tacos and their significance in Texas culture, while discovering and sharing even more foods and restaurants that deserve to be spotlighted across our great state.”
According to a news release, Favor is also looking for Texans to form a team of “order-in experts who will help find the very best dishes in their city — all from the comfort of their home.” The company emphasized it was particularly interested in finding order-in experts in Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, among other cities and metro areas. Applications for the post are due by Dec. 1, and no prior food critic experience is required.
Favor was founded in Austin in 2013. It operates in more than 400 cities in Texas with over 100,000 drivers.
