Dashcam footage showcased an Oregon man’s road rage rampage as he drove his truck through a parade route.
The footage showed 42-year-old Sidney Mecham driving aggressively around traffic and through roadblocks in a Chevrolet Avalanche. Some of the roadblocks were set along the route for the Grand Floral Parade in Portland, Oregon.
Mecham is a registered sex offender, having been convicted on charges of rape, sodomy, and sexual abuse between 1996 and 2016.
The footage shows Mecham becoming increasingly frustrated to the point of road rage, flipping off drivers as he continued to encounter traffic. At one point, Mecham received a call and screamed into his phone, “They got it all blocked off. … Every mother f*****g exit.”
He flipped off and screamed at the workers who were blocking the exits on the freeway.
Mecham then drove his truck over traffic cones and onto an embankment at one of the blocked exits, attempting to get around Oregon Department of Transportation trucks and workers. This move put him directly in the path of the parade.
People attending the parade can be seen jumping out of the way and screaming as Mecham’s allegedly reckless driving turned into a rampage as he drove through barricades and chairs. Law enforcement attempted to stop Mecham, however, he ignored them and continued to run through more barricades.
Police were eventually able to subdue Mecham, and he was later jailed at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail on July 10. Luckily, no one was hurt in the rampage.
Mecham is currently being held on multiple charges, including 15 counts of reckless endangerment, 17 counts of unlawful use of a weapon, one count of attempting to assault a public safety office, attempts to elude police, and more. He had also been driving with a suspended driver’s license and no insurance.
Prosecutors have since submitted the dashcam footage as evidence in a bid to deny Mecham bail while he awaits trial, according to Fox 4 KDFW.
