A former coach and teacher in Richardson ISD was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly possessing child pornography.

Charles “Chuck” Ray Brandon, 65, was arrested for possession of child pornography, the Frisco Police Department said in a news release.

The police said the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit received a ‘CyberTip’ on September 15 claiming someone in Frisco possessed child pornography, prompting further investigation into the claim.

A search warrant was granted on October 24 for a residence in the 8400 block of Stonebrook Parkway, where allegedly “multiple images meeting the Texas statutory definition of child pornography were found.”

Since Brandon was the sole occupant of the house, he was arrested for possession of the images.

Richardson ISD has since confirmed that Brandon worked at Berkner High School from 1991 to 2021, where he spent many years as a speech and debate teacher and coach of the girls’ soccer team, according to Fox 4 KDFW.

The district called the news “shocking and disturbing” and said it would assist FPD with the identification of potential victims throughout the investigation, per Fox 4.

A statement from RISD said, “The investigation is ongoing and Frisco Police would like to raise awareness about the arrest among current, and especially former, Berkner feeder pattern families,” reported WFAA.

“Mr. Brandon passed a background check as a condition of RISD employment and the district is not aware of any records or reports of inappropriate conduct with students during his time at Berkner H.S.”

Possession of child pornography is a third-degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Brandon’s bond was set at $30,000.

Anyone with information regarding these allegations is asked to contact FPD at 972-292-6010 or by texting FRISCOPD and the tip to 847411.

Such alleged incidents are unfortunately not uncommon.

As The Dallas Express reported, an elementary school teacher’s aide from Henrietta ISD was arrested in June for allegedly producing child pornography and distributing it via Snapchat. The next month, a kindergarten teacher at an elementary school in Chapel Hill ISD was arrested on multiple child pornography charges.

Also in June, a man from Lamesa was sentenced to 14 years in prison for receipt of child porn after he was found in possession of sexually explicit photos of a 16-year-old girl. Reportedly, the police began investigating him after he bragged to his coworkers about having had sex with the minor.

Allegations of sex crimes are also frequent within the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, often in which the accused perpetrator worked at a school.

Earlier this month, an investigation began into a Princeton ISD staff member believed to have had an inappropriate relationship with a student, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Similarly, an assistant principal from Northwest ISD was arrested following allegations of continual sexual abuse of a child, as reported by The Dallas Express in early October.
