Widespread heavy rain brought flash-flooding to some areas across the metroplex Wednesday and early Thursday morning, but the precipitation is expected to taper off as the storm system moves eastward Thursday morning.
However, the National Weather Service predicts a 30-40% chance that showers could redevelop later in the day, so a Flash Flood Watch will continue through October 26.
Rain totals in North Texas yesterday and overnight ranged from 3 to 8 inches, causing flooding in some low-lying areas, reported Fox 4 KDFW.
Forest Park Boulevard in Fort Worth, which runs along the Trinity River, was reportedly underwater in some parts after the river overflowed its banks. Fish were left behind on city streets as the floodwaters receded.
Glen Rose experienced some of the heaviest recorded rainfall, measuring 8.30 inches within the past 24 hours, per NBC 5 DFW.
Quanah Parker Park in east Forth Worth was completely underwater early Thursday morning, NBC 5 reported. The floodwaters reached depths of 8 feet in some areas of the park.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a call near Merriman and Skillman early Thursday, where they found a man who had climbed a tree to escape the floodwaters. The crew rescued the man from the tree and transported him to the hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, department spokesperson Jason Evans said.
The wet roads and high water made for a treacherous commute for some drivers in the DFW area. Traffic slowed to a crawl on many thoroughfares as drivers navigated ponding on the roads and high-water crossings.
No deaths have been reported in connection with the most recent storms.
But the water woes are not over just yet. The NWS in Fort Worth has issued flood warnings for several area rivers as run-off from the storms makes its way to the river basin.
The West Fork Trinity River measured 21.1 feet Thursday morning but was expected to crest at 27.8 feet later in the day. The flood stage is 27 feet. The West Fork Trinity River warning is in effect until late Friday morning.
A flood warning is in effect for the Trinity River at Dallas until early Saturday morning. As of October 26, at 8 a.m., the river measured 33.9 feet, several feet above flood stage of 30 feet. The river is expected to crest at 38.3 feet late Thursday before proceeding below flood stage Friday afternoon.
The wet weather will continue over the next several days, with a 60% chance of rain on Friday and Saturday, increasing to 80% on Sunday. Temperatures on Thursday will top out at about 80 degrees, cooling off to a high of around 70 degrees on Saturday. By Sunday, the highs will only reach the mid-50s.
