A local North Texan just became a newly minted millionaire after purchasing a winning lottery scratch-off ticket.
Texas Lottery announced on Wednesday that a McKinney resident claimed a “top prize-winning ticket” worth $1 million, having played the $1,000,000 Crossword game.
The ticket, which was purchased at the Quick Pak convenience store at 1840 K Ave. in Plano, was the last top-prize winner out of a total of eight $1 million prizes available in the game.
“$1,000,000 Crossword offers more than $289.2 million in total prizes,” reads a new release from Texas Lottery. “Overall odds of winning any prize in the game are one in 3.41, including break-even prizes.”
The Mckinney resident, who has chosen to remain anonymous, is not the only Texas to win big recently. Earlier this month, a Garland resident and a Houston resident each won $1.25 million in the Texas TwoStep drawing on October 12.
An Edinburg resident and a Burnet resident each won $1 million from the scratch ticket games $100,000,000 Riches and $1,000,000 Gold Rush, respectively, the Texas Lottery announced on October 23. The next day, two more winners were announced: an Archer City resident claimed a $1 million scratch ticket prize in the Millionaire Maker game, and a Nederland resident claimed a scratch ticket prize of $7.5 million in the Loteria Supreme game.
Texas Lottery sold its first winning ticket in 1992 and has since dispensed $83 billion in prizes. The lottery has generated $37.9 billion in revenue and has contributed millions to state programs related to public education and veterans.
The Texas Lottery Commission officially donated over $2 billion to public education and veterans programs this year, following a record amount of ticket sales, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Texas residents will have a few more opportunities to win big in the lottery this week. Powerball will be having its drawing for an estimated $125 million on October 28, Mega Millions will have a drawing for $137 million on October 27, and Texas Lotto Extra will draw for an estimated $16.75 million on October 26.
