The Associated Press has released its first Top 25 Men’s Basketball Poll for the 2023-2024 season.

The poll features four Texas teams led by No.7 Houston, which moved from the American Athletic Conference to the Big 12 this season. Texas A&M (No.15), Texas (No.18), and Baylor (No.20) joined the Cougars as ranked teams to start the season.

Fellow Big 12 foe Kansas earned the No.1 ranking with 46 first-place votes. Duke, Purdue, Michigan State, and Marquette rounded out the top five.

Defending national champion UConn came in at No.6, while runner-up San Diego State was ranked 17th. Miami and Florida Atlantic, the two other national semifinalists from last season, were ranked 13th and 10th, respectively.

Overall, the Big 12 has four ranked teams, while the Southeastern Conference leads the nation with five ranked teams.
