An employee at a local elementary school has been reported dead after a shooting occurred in the parking lot early Wednesday morning.
Reportedly, a member of the David K. Sellars Elementary School cafeteria staff was killed in the lot behind the school early in the morning of October 11.
No information as to the person’s specific identity or motive for the killing was disclosed. Law enforcement officials say there is currently no additional safety threat at the location.
“The Fort Worth ISD’s top priority is always the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and their families,” the school district said, per DFW Scanner. “This morning, a tragic incident occurred in the back parking lot at David K. Sellars Elementary School that resulted in the passing of a beloved staff member.”
“Our hearts go out to their family during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement continued. “The staff member was dedicated to serving their campus and had a profound impact on students and the staff.”
“We want to assure the public that there is no ongoing threat or danger to our school community,” the school administration claimed.
“Emergency personnel responded swiftly, and we have worked closely with our safety and security team in collaboration with the Forest Hill Police Department to ensure the safety of our campus.”
“We understand that this situation is emotionally challenging for our students, staff, and families,” officials added. “To provide support, additional counseling staff are available on-site to assist those in need within our school community.”
“We appreciate the continued support of David K. Sellars Elementary staff, families, and community during this difficult time,” Fort Worth ISD concluded.
The Forest Hill Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
School safety has been an ongoing concern as Dallas ISD began the school year short 167 security guards, as reported by The Dallas Express. Some districts, such as Wylie ISD, have resorted to retaining outside private security firms to increase campus safety.
