Less than 10% of hospitals receive a three-star rating for coronary artery bypass surgery.

Medical City Fort Worth is in that 10%.

Medical City Fort Worth has earned a distinguished three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures.

The three-star rating, which denotes the highest quality category, places Medical City Fort Worth among the elite for heart bypass surgery in the U.S. and Canada.

“This recognition places Medical City Fort Worth among the best in the nation for CABG and is a testament to the outstanding and compassionate care that is provided to our patients each day,” said Ben Coogan, CEO of Medical City Fort Worth. “It is another reason why Medical City Fort Worth is the destination of choice for patients undergoing advanced cardiac procedures.”

Reza Khalafi, MD, medical director of cardiovascular surgery, concurs, “A three-star rating for CABG from STS validates the clinical protocols that are in place at Medical City Fort Worth, which help provide the solid framework for the high quality, compassionate care we provide. While CABG is a complex and intensive surgery, patients can be assured that the cardiovascular team at Medical City Fort Worth delivers some of the best outcomes in the nation.”

The STS star rating system is one of the most sophisticated and highly regarded overall quality measures in health care, rating the benchmarked outcomes of cardiothoracic surgery programs across the U.S. and Canada.

The star rating is calculated using a combination of quality measures for specific procedures performed by an STS Adult Cardiac Surgery Database participant.
