Two Texans won some big bucks during Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, but the jackpot is still up for grabs during the next drawing at the end of this week.
The winning numbers in the last drawing on September 20 were 16, 27, 59, 62, and 63, with a Powerball of 23 and Power Play of 3.
Just over one million prizes were awarded from the drawing, including 25 prizes of $50,000 each and 11 prizes of $150,000 each.
One “lucky” Texan won $1 million by matching all 5 of the white ball numbers, and another Texas resident won $2 million by matching all five white ball numbers and purchasing the Power Play Match 5 multiplier for an additional dollar. A Georgia resident also won $2 million with the multiplier option.
To win the jackpot prize, a player must match the numbers on all five white balls drawn plus the red Powerball number. Players can choose numbers between 1-69 for the white balls and 1-25 for the red Powerball. The Powerball jackpot continues to grow until someone wins it.
In addition, there are eight other ways to match and win various cash prizes.
The jackpot prize for the next Powerball drawing on September 23 now stands at an estimated $725 million annuitized, with a cash option of $345.7 million. This is the third-largest Powerball jackpot this year and the eighth-largest in the game’s history.
The last Powerball jackpot winner was a California resident who won over $1 billion in the July 19 drawing, just days after two Texans won $1 million each, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The Powerball Lottery is operated by the Multi-State Lottery Association, “a non-profit, government-benefit association owned and operated by its member lotteries,” according to the website. All profits retained from the lottery are used to fund projects approved by the state legislature authorizing each lottery.
Powerball’s next drawing will be held at 10:59 p.m. CT.
