The State Fair of Texas is about to open its gates, and here are some reasons why you might want to be first in line.
Fair Park in Dallas is revving up for a Texas-sized heap of activities from September 29 to October 22.
As previously reported in The Dallas Express, these happenings range from live shows of death-defying acrobatics to delectable deep-fried bites of sweet and savory goodies.
While there are lots of useful tips on how to best prepare for your fair-going adventure on the midway, one of the best might be to go early.
Here are some reasons why the inaugural week of the fair might be the best of all.
1. Beat the Crowd, Win Some Elbow Room
Last year’s event attracted a record-breaking 2.5 million attendees, with Fletcher’s Corny Dogs selling over 580,000 corny dogs, the Pioneer Kettle Korn stand popping 12.7 million kernels, and State Fair Cotton Candy using 90,000 pounds of cane sugar, as previously reported in The Dallas Express.
The largest crowds were seen in the final days of the fair. For this reason alone, there are numerous advantages to coming early this year.
Fewer people around would mean fewer photobombers when trying to get a photo souvenir with Big Tex, the world’s tallest cowboy.
Moreover, this must-see icon has a new set of boots designed by Irving artist Jessica Bonilla and transformed into size 96 kicks by Lucchese Bootmaker.
2. Maximize Your Time on Tuesday
Thrill-seekers can couple shorter lines with cheaper prices for rides on the midway by going on the first Tuesday of the fair.
With the exception of the Thrillway and the Texas Star Ferris Wheel, adult rides are discounted to just four coupons, whereas kiddie rides will cost just three coupons.
Of course, these discounts will be valid every Tuesday throughout the fair.
3. Eat More for Less on Thursday
The same rationale applies to why foodies should definitely aim to attend the fair on the first Thursday.
Whether you aim to savor the Big Tex Choice Awards finalists’ dishes or have your eye on traditional favorites like turkey legs, select food vendors offer their signature dishes at discounted prices on Thursday.
Portions range from mini to regular-sized, meaning that no matter the heft of your wallet and appetite, there is a snack for you.
4. Enjoy Unobstructed Views of Concert Lineup
Why settle for a distant view when you can enjoy the music up close?
The first week of the Texas State Fair boasts an impressive musical lineup, including Lonestar, CeeLo Green, 38 Special, Shelley Carrol, and Bowling for Soup.
Concerts will be played on three different stages: the Chevrolet Main Stage, Yuengling Flight Stage, and Bud Light Stage.
