This holiday weekend, Dallas Police will be busy as road rage, aggressive driving, and driving while intoxicated will not be tolerated.
The police department has confirmed targeted enforcement efforts are underway to crack down on speeding, driving aggressively, and suspected driving under the influence. Dallas PD will be visible throughout the city.
According to the police department, a No-Refusal DWI Initiative will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3 through midnight, Monday, Sept. 6. During these hours, officers will “obtain a search warrant for a blood sample from anyone arrested for DWI who refuses to voluntarily give a breath or blood sample.”
The initiative is in conjunction with the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TXDOT) ongoing “Drive Sober. No Regrets” impaired driving campaign.
The TXDOT provides the following Labor Day statistics and the effects of impaired driving. Over the 2019 holiday weekend among drivers aged 18-34, 46% of those killed had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08 or higher. Furthermore, 38% of all fatalities involved a drunk driver.
In addition to driving under the influence, Dallas PD wants drivers to stay calm behind the wheel. Currently, 512 road rage incidents have been reported in the City of Dallas, so police are on the lookout for aggressive driving behaviors.
Motorists are urged to call 9-1-1 if they observe aggressive or suspected drunk drivers.
