Dallas Independent School District does not want students to miss out on a month-long series of activities to promote school attendance.

To raise awareness of the importance of school attendance and academic success, the Dallas ISD Parent Services is celebrating September Attendance Awareness Month.

The district has created various ways for students and schools to participate during September, proving the correlation between being in school and achieving academic success. While the Dallas ISD has been trying to combat chronic absences, with some students missing at least 18 days a school year, the scheduled events hope to reduce the number of absent students.

The September activities are divided into Aim for Perfect Attendance, Trustee District Champion School Competition, and Attendance Awareness Month Social Media Challenge.

Students who achieve perfect attendance in September will be entered in a raffle for a yet-to-be-named special prize. One student from each trustee district will be selected as a winner.

The Trustee District Champion School Competition pits each school within a district against each other for the school with the lowest number of student absences. The winning school will be named Trustee District Champion School and receive a banner.

Students, staff, and families are invited to participate in the Attendance Awareness Month Social Media Challenge by creating a video promoting school attendance and learning, using the hashtag #ShowUpDallasISD.

Additionally, Dallas ISD students can show their spirit for school attendance and learning by wearing the themed clothing each Wednesday in September as part of Attendance Awareness Month.
