An Ohio-based company has recalled a line of children’s beds due to concerns over the possibility of strangulation.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that Bell Station Interiors, which does business as Zipadee Kids, issued the recall effective August 17. The recall affects about 7,450 units of twin, full, and queen-size “Convertible House Bed Frames” as well as the toddler-size “Montessori Floor Bed,” intended for children 18 months and older.

The affected products were sold between February 2018 and September 2021 for between $260 and $900 via the company’s website and its Etsy shop and were shipped between February 26, 2018, and October 22, 2021.

The beds were designed to be adjusted to a growing child’s needs. However, it appears the design could pose a serious hazard.

“The spindles used on the recalled beds are spaced at a distance that creates a serious entrapment hazard that can lead to strangulation and/or death to children,” reads the recall notice. “The design of the bed allows a child’s torso to slip through the rail opening but will not allow their head to pass, posing entrapment and strangulation hazards that could result in death.”

The company reported that at least two incidents have already occurred, involving a 21-month-old boy and a 4-year-old girl in February of this year. While the boy was unharmed, the girl reportedly sustained “minor injuries.”

CPSC urged consumers who own any of the products to dispose of them.

“It is a violation of federal law to sell or distribute recalled products. The firm has filed for dissolution with the State of Ohio and has represented to CPSC that it is unable to offer a remedy to consumers,” the agency stated in the recall notice.

Consumers should report any incidents involving the recalled beds, including any product-related injuries, to the CPSC at www.SaferProducts.gov or the agency’s hotline at 800-638-2772.
