In what could be considered a flashpoint in the rivalry between Ole Miss and Mississippi State, DeSoto girls basketball floor general Ayanna Thompson chose to be a Rebel.

Thompson, who is fresh from helping guide the Lady Eagles to the 2021 Class 6A title, was at the center of a recruiting tug-of-war between the two Magnolia State schools.

But earlier this month, she announced in a video posted to Twitter that her sights are set on a post-prep future in Oxford, the Web site 247Sports reported.

“Have faith, trust the process, and most importantly, BELIEVE in yourself,” Thompson tweeted along with a video on July 2.

In the 6-foot-1 senior-to-be, Ole Miss will get a player that plays the game fast and makes excellent use of her athleticism.

“Big one off the board and the Rebels fan base will love this one!” The Girls Circuit Twitter account posted after Thompson chose Ole Miss.
