Fire crews responded to reports of a blaze behind a fire station in Carrollton overnight on Sunday.

The City of Carrollton said in a Facebook post that a transformer fire over by Firehouse 4 at 2155 E Rosemeade Pkwy had broken out at about 9:20 p.m. Carrollton Fire Rescue said the crew from the station was out on a medical call at the time of the fire.

The fire appeared to have been put out roughly an hour later, WFAA reported.

No fire personnel were injured, however, the blaze caused damage to some equipment.

“The fire caused the Outdoor Warning Siren to activate for approximately 40 seconds before it was damaged by the fire and is now out of service,” said the city in its post.

Carrollton Emergency Management personnel arrived on the scene to assess the damage to the warning siren and make repairs to it. Only one engine was needed to subdue the blaze.

“Additional information was received by [the North Texas Emergency Communications Center] and the incident was upgraded to a Structure Fire Response which dispatched several additional fire apparatus to the scene,” said Carrollton Fire Rescue in a Facebook post.

Damage was sustained to the transformer as well as a nearby tree, however, the fire station and the nearby neighborhood were left unscathed.

The blaze resulted in a power outage in the surrounding area for several hours. However, power has since seen been restored, reported CBS News Texas.

Firehouse 4 was forced to use an emergency backup generator for power, according to comments on the fire station’s Facebook post. Carrollton Fire Rescue thanked 7 Brew Coffee of Carrollton for donating coffee to the station the morning after the fire.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown. However, comments on the social media post suggested that the transformer may have been affected by the extreme heat and the increased demand for electricity.
