Time is running out for Dallas Independent School District parents to sign up their children for virtual learning.
The deadline for registration is Monday, Aug. 23. Virtual Academy classes begin Aug. 24.
While all school buildings have been extensively cleaned for the beginning of the school year and staff takes precautions to ensure a clean and safe environment, concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic continue.
Due to rising COVID-19 cases, Dallas ISD requires everyone on district property to wear masks, and visitors are not permitted inside the school buildings.
Even though Dallas ISD officials believe on-campus learning provides added benefits to students, the online option is available for qualifying students.
To participate in the Virtual Academy, a student must be 11 years of age or under, as of Aug. 16, 2021. Additionally, students who “qualify for homebound services as medically fragile are eligible as well.”
Students enrolled in the Virtual Academy are limited to no more than two absences for the “day or part of the day” and must maintain a 70 or above grade point average. Students in pre-kindergarten and first grade must have an E or S in each subject.
Additionally, students must adhere to the Dallas ISD Student Code of Conduct.
The school administration will evaluate the online learning academy every nine weeks to determine if it is necessary for parents.
