A Texas ranch recently hit the market for $12 million, and it’s the perfect blend of water, wildlife, and woods.

Five Lakes Ranch is a sprawling 2,000-acre ranch located off 9200 FM 45 in the southwestern portion of the Cross Timbers Ecoregion of Brown County, about a 2-hour drive southwest of Fort Worth.

The ranch is an ideal home for any wildlife enthusiast, having been featured in a 2005 issue of Texas Wildlife Magazine for its outstanding waterfowl hunting, trophy deer hunting, and bass fishing, according to a description of the property listing.

On top of the five lakes are 10 ponds, and multiple seasonal creeks run through the property. Five Lake Ranch has a 2,800-square-foot owner’s home (headquarters), a 1,290-square-foot guest home, an insulated 2,400-square-foot shop/equipment barn, a storage shed, two water wells, a rifle range, and more, according to Bret Polk, leasing agent for Hortenstine Ranch Company, the Dallas-based real estate firm selling the ranch.

“It’s almost gotten cliché to say it in the ranch brokerage business, but when you consider a property like Five Lakes, the outstanding diversity is without a doubt the first thing you’ll notice,” Polk told The Dallas Express. “It’s loaded with water, is heavily wooded, provides scenic changes in topography, and is home to an abundance of wildlife.”

Some of the common wildlife found on the property include whitetail and axis deer, Rio Grande turkey, dove, and quail. As far as fishing goes, Polk said Five Lakes could produce double-digit size trophy bass — “with some management.” In addition, the collective bodies of water offer a reliable source of surface water for wildlife and recreation.

The property’s sweeping countryside includes plentiful cover and edge, abundant sources of native browse and forbs, and numerous locations where food plots could be established. Upon entering the property, visitors are greeted with a large stone entrance, cattle guard, and automatic gate with direct access to the ranch from FM 45.

Regarding entertainment options, the Texas ranch is great for horseback riding, swimming, tennis, and gardening. Local attractions near the ranch include the Brownwood Country Club, the Hideout Golf Club and Resort, and the Colorado River.

“It’s simply some really good country!” Polk told The Dallas Express.
