Summer is quickly waning for students and educators across North Texas, with barely a month of vacation left for some independent school districts.
The start dates for the upcoming academic year have been released, with some students returning as early as August 7.
For anyone needing help preparing for the 2023-2024 term, several options are available.
In Dallas, parents and students can sign up for Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair event held on August 4. Mayor Eric Johnson hosts the fair, partnering with local organizations and businesses to help qualifying families in the city.
For those residing in Tarrant County, registration is now open for the 2023 Tarrant County Back to School Roundup.
The event is scheduled for August 4, but families must pre-register and provide proof of residency and qualifying income to benefit from the free school supplies.
Several local initiatives have also been organized by community groups throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth region, including Plano and Arlington.
Some ISDs, such as Dallas ISD and Mesquite ISD, have instituted a clear backpack policy for the upcoming term, as The Dallas Express has covered.
With the exception of small personal item containers for hygiene products and money, students won’t be allowed to carry any bag that is not see-through. While districts have implemented the policy in a bid to shore up school safety, opinions vary as to its effectiveness.
Districts will provide students with a free clear backpack upon request.
For required materials and supplies, please refer to your local district for specific information — the school term is just weeks away.
