Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas is set to host a “Puberty and Periods Party” for 4th and 5th graders in Dallas this summer.
Designed to make “sexuality education easy to understand and fun for participants,” the July 28 event requires permission from a parent or guardian for children to participate.
A page about the event explains, “Puberty is when bodies change from kid bodies to grown-up bodies! It’s a healthy part of growing up. It’s common to feel anxious, excited, or confused about it.”
“We’re here to help preteens learn what to expect,” the description reads.
“This age-appropriate and medically accurate program is designed to give 4th and 5th graders the information they need to be prepared for puberty changes,” it claims. “Each lesson is thoughtfully designed to engage youth and will include a presentation, engaging activities, and time to address questions.”
“Everyone is welcome at the puberty party, regardless of their sex assigned at birth or gender identity,” the page notes.
The event will discuss the social, emotional, and physical changes that occur during puberty, menstruation and menstrual products, “healthy friendships,” and “talking to trusted adults.”
Attendees must register in advance. The registration form asks for children’s pronouns, what school they go to, their mailing address, and their race. Other cities hosting similar events include Austin and El Paso.
Pro-family groups were quick to denounce Planned Parenthood for the event.
Kimberlyn Schwartz, the director of media and communication for Texas Right to Life, told The Dallas Express, “Planned Parenthood has a disgusting history of targeting children. Their business depends on it.”
“The earlier the organization can introduce its ideology, the earlier minors will be hooked as customers,” she continued. “When Planned Parenthood has access to your children, it has access to future clients.”
Similarly, Jonathan Covey, the director of policy at Texas Values, told The Dallas Express, “Let’s hope these events are recognized for what they really are — opportunities to indoctrinate kids with radical non-abstinence-focused sex education and LGBT gender ideology that Texas law currently prohibits being taught to public school students without express parental approval.”
Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas did not respond to a request for comment prior to publication.
Although Texas banned most abortions following the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization (2022), Planned Parenthood has remained active in urging for a reversal of such laws.
On the June 24 anniversary of the Dobbs ruling, Wendy Davis, a pro-abortion senior advisor for Planned Parenthood Texas Votes, said, “Today marks one year since the fall of Roe v. Wade and the beginning of the end of Texans’ ability to access abortion in Texas.”
“Today’s anniversary serves as a painful reminder of the rights we have lost, not just here in Texas, but across the nation,” the activist claimed.
Anti-abortion advocates have celebrated the change in Texas law.
Following a report that suggested nearly 10,000 additional births had occurred in the state since the ban went into effect, Rep. Jeff Leach (R-Plano) said, “Such incredible news! 10k future teachers, doctors, innovators and inventors, moms and dads, athletes, musicians … and maybe even a future President.”
“10k new and unique little Texans — all carefully knitted together by a God who knows them and loves them and who has perfect plans for their lives,” the representative concluded.
