The Texas Rangers, the Frisco RoughRiders, and FC Dallas continued their seasons on Tuesday.

Here is what happened on the field and behind the scenes.

Texas Rangers (51-35, first in American League West)

Last Game: Rangers 6, Boston Red Sox 2

Mitch Garver’s three-run home run in the second gave Texas a 3-1 lead, and the Rangers poured it on from there. Robbie Grossman and Josh Jung added RBI doubles, and Garver walked to collect a fourth RBI to make it 6-1. Boston scored once in the eighth and put two runners on base in the ninth, but Will Smith got Alex Verdugo to pop out to end the game.

Noteworthy: Texas maintains its three-game lead over Houston in the AL West.

— Rangers starter Dane Dunning continues to impress. He allowed just one run in six innings on Tuesday and is 8-1 with a 2.61 ERA and 55 strikeouts this season.

— Smith now has 15 saves on the season, tied for 13th in the MLB.

— Shortstop Corey Seager went 1-4 and has reached base safely in 23 consecutive games, the longest current stream in the American League.

— The Rangers bullpen allowed zero earned runs on Tuesday after surrendering 18 in its previous five games.

— Texas is 2-2 against Boston on the Fourth of July.

MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
Frisco RoughRiders (35-40, fourth in Texas League South division, seventh in AA Texas League)
Last Game: RoughRiders 6, Midland RockHounds 3

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Frisco’s Luisangel Acuna knocked a single into center field, scoring two runs as the RoughRiders took the lead.

Frisco scored two more on an error in the seventh and added a sacrifice fly in the eighth, while Midland got a solo home run from Brett Harris. Antoine Kelly shut the RockHounds down in order in the ninth to end the game.

Noteworthy: The RoughRiders set a new club Fourth of July attendance record as 12,045 fans showed up for Tuesday’s game. The crowd was the second largest in the 20-year history of the franchise, 22 short of the record set on July 20, 2018.

— Before Tuesday’s game, pitcher Josh Stephan joined the team from High-A Hickory, and infielder Chris Seise was placed on the seven-day injured list. Stephan allowed two runs on five hits in four-and-a-third innings as Tuesday’s starter.

— Harris’ home run was just the second run allowed by the Frisco bullpen in its last four games. The unit had a 1.82 ERA in 24.2 innings in six games against San Antonio last week.

— Outfielder Trevor Hauver’s hitting streak ended after 12 games.

FC Dallas (8-8-5, fifth in Western Conference)
Last Game: D.C. United 1, FC Dallas 0

D.C.’s Taxi Fountas scored the game’s only goal 73 minutes into the match. Dallas had a few late chances, but Jader Obrian was unable to convert from 15 yards out in the 89th minute, and Sam Junqua sent a header wide in stoppage time.

Noteworthy: FC Dallas played without leading-scorer Jesus Ferreira, who is currently playing for Team USA at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

— FC Dallas striker Bernard Kamungo left the game with a head injury.

— FC Dallas was shut out for the fifth time this season and has lost three of its last five matches.

— An MLS match between LAFC and the Los Angeles Galaxy at the Rose Bowl set a new league attendance record with 82,110 fans. The previous record had been set at the beginning of last season as Charlotte FC’s first-ever home match attracted 74,479.
