The Texas Rangers continued their four-game series against the Detroit Tigers, while the Frisco RoughRiders began a six-game set in San Antonio.

Here is what happened on the field and behind the scenes.

MLB

Texas Rangers (48-31, first in American League West)

Last Game: Rangers 10, Detroit Tigers 2

The Rangers’ offense picked up right where it left off in Tuesday’s win, jumping on the Tigers for four runs in the first inning. Josh Jung and Ezequiel Duran both added homers in the third, while Adolis Garcia did the same in the sixth, and Texas built a 10-0. Kerry Carpenter helped the Tigers avoid a shutout with a two-run blast in the ninth.

Noteworthy: The Rangers increased their lead in the AL West to six games over the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels.

— Garcia went 3-5 with his 20th home run of the season and added three RBIs. He now has 68 RBIs on the season; the most a Ranger has had before the All-Star break since Nelson Cruz’s 69 in 2013.

— Starting pitcher Dane Dunning delivered his best outing of the season, going eight-and-two-thirds innings and striking out 10. After a leadoff single from Zach McKinstry, he retired 17 hitters in a row, and his only real blemish was the Carpenter homer — which came on his last pitch of the night.

— Four Rangers lead their positions in Phase Two of All-Star voting. Fan ballots close at 11 a.m. CT on Thursday.

— Cody Bradford has been announced as the probable starter for Thursday’s series finale against Detroit.

Next Up: Tigers (34-45) at Rangers, 1:05 p.m. CT Thursday

MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

Frisco RoughRiders (32-37 overall, fifth in Texas League South division, eighth in AA Texas League, 1-0 in second half )

Last Game: RoughRiders 4, San Antonio Missions 2

Frisco scored two in the first inning and added two late runs to hold on for a series-opening win. Luisangel Acuna scored the game’s first run, and Trevor Hauver followed with an RBI double. After Thomas Saggese and Josh Hatcher each knocked in runs, San Antonio threatened to tie the game. A wild pitch put two runners in scoring position, and one scored on a groundout — bringing the tying run to the plate with one out. However, Grant Wolfram struck out two consecutive batters to seal the win.

Noteworthy: After a brief extended break, Frisco begins the second half of the season with a win. In the minor leagues, the division winner of each half of the season clinches a playoff berth.

— Saggese now owns the longest hitting streak in Double-A at 15 games.

— Infielder Nick Tanielu has returned to the RoughRiders from Triple-A Round Rock, while reliever Alex Speas has been promoted to Triple-A.

— Hauver tied a career-high with three hits. Outfielder Evan Carter also had a three-hit game and scored two runs.

— Frisco’s pitching held San Antonio to just four hits.
