Does it feel like you are inside a microwave? A good chunk of North Texas is right there with you.

Temperatures have been soaring across the Lone Star State, as The Dallas Express previously reported. While being out in the excessive heat carries several health risks, no one wants to spend their summer trapped indoors in front of a fan.

There are some places to go and things to do that could provide some cooling relief as well as excitement:

Find a Pool, Splash pad, or Water park

Dallas Aquatics has a list of “spraygrounds,” aquatic centers, and community swimming pools around the city.

Thrill seekers can also check out Bahama Beach, a family waterpark in southern Dallas. General admission costs $15 for adults and $11 for children, but some fare options can lower the cost, including season passes, resident discounts, and group rates.

For those out by Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Great Wolf Lodge Water Park in Grapevine — the largest indoor waterpark in North Texas — is open to guests, even those not necessarily staying the night. With full-day passes costing $100, guests can cool off and have fun going down waterslides, jumping around in a wave pool, and floating on a lazy river.

Another indoor waterpark is currently offering $34 passes during its “Summer Splash Sale.” Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark in Grand Prairie has an assortment of waterslides, including some with steep vertical drops.

Visit a Museum or Aquarium

Sea Life Aquarium in Grapevine can give you an aquatic adventure outside the water, with admission prices starting at $24.99. Stingrays, sharks, sea turtles, and more are on display to provide a fascinating and educational experience.

Another site offering equal doses of amusement and education is the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. As The Dallas Express previously reported, interactive exhibits like “The Science Behind Pixar” give guests a peak behind the scenes at some of the company’s animated films and characters.

More mature museumgoers might enjoy a visit to the Kimbell Art Museum. Until September 3, the museum is running an exhibit on rare Mesoamerican works called “Lives of the Gods: Divinity in Maya Art.”

General admission is free, however, adults wishing to visit the special exhibits must pay $18.

Watch a Movie

Bahama Beach is promoting “Dive in Movies” this summer with family-friendly film showings. Admission costs $5, and there are plenty of activities leading up to the movie’s start time.

As The Dallas Express previously reported, Cinemark has launched its Summer Movie Clubhouse program with $1.50 tickets. Moviegoers can enjoy a family-friendly lineup and take advantage of various snack deals each Wednesday until August 10.

Those looking to chill out on the grass can check out Klyde Warren Park’s Movies in the Park series held on select Saturday evenings in Dallas. Upcoming features include E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial on June 24 and Abominable on July 15.

Head Toward an Experience

Those looking to get their creative juices flowing can head to Crayola Experience Plano. General admission costs $25.99, but different pricing options are available, as well as reduced fees of $5 for special craft classes.

Adults and children alike can also find something to do at Legoland Discovery Center. Admission starts at $29.99, and activities include riding on the Kingdom Quest, watching your favorite LEGO characters in the 4D cinema, and building your own LEGO creations.

For fans of the British cartoon Peppa Pig, Peppa Pig World in Dallas offers 14 different themed play areas for a parent-child admission fee of $27.99. Kids can jump in interactive muddy puddles, explore Peppa Pig’s house, and ride on Grandpa Pig’s train.

As The Dallas Express previously reported, an outdoor Peppa Pig Theme Park is slated to open in North Richland Hills in 2024.
